Westchester County Legislator George Oros (R-Cortlandt) today announced that he, along with his colleagues from the Board of Legislators, has facilitated the allocation of $90,000 in federal grant money for two important services within the City of Peekskill.
Funding in the amount of $50,000 will be allocated to the City of Peekskill for the purchase of a senior van that can accommodate twelve ambulatory passengers and two wheelchairs. The van will be used to transport seniors, who are enrolled in the Peekskill Nutrition Program, to and from the Nutrition Center.
Legislator George Oros said, “I’m relieved that Peekskill’s seniors will finally have a reliable means of transportation to community services in the area that are of interest to them, which otherwise they would not be able to attend.”
In addition, Legislator Oros announced that $40,000 in funding will go to the Kiley Youth Center, which is an organization that reaches out to nearly 275 Peekskill youths that come from low to moderate income families. The Center also provides educational and recreational programs, counseling and employment services to youths at risk.
Legislator Oros said, “The Kiley Youth Center offers programs that are extremely valuable to our community. It’s important to see that institutions, such as the Kiley Center, are supported and have everything they need to function properly.”
Legislator Oros complimented Peekskill Mayor John Testa and the City Council for their cooperation and tireless efforts that eased the securing of these funds. “The unwavering support from the mayor and council made these grants possible,” concluded Legislator Oros.
Both grants will be funded through the Community Development Block Grant Program and were approved by the Westchester County Board of Legislators
