PEEKSKILL RESIDENT RECOGNIZED FOR PUBLIC AWARENESS TO END VIOLENCE

Ayanna Davis, Peekskill resident, was formally recognized for her community contribution, by County Legislator George Oros, 1st District, at the County Legislator's meeting on March 12, 2007.

Ms. Davis is co-founder of Staj & Co., a dance troupe that is a montage of spiritual dance routines, performing for various groups and organizations. Through Staj & Co, Ms. Davis volunteers her time to the youth of Peekskill, implementing anti-fighting skills and poetry readings.

Ms. Davis has been seen on Black Entertainment Television, has won competitions at the Apollo Theatre and was recognized by Sister to Sister, an International organization that combats violence against women. Ms. Davis is currently planning the “Stop the Violence” tour with Staj & Co. and will be performing dance routines to promote awareness against violence.

Westchester County Legislators joined their colleague, George Oros, as they thanked Ayanna Davis for her efforts on behalf of the youth of Peekskill and Westchester County and it was resolved that March 12, 2007, be proclaimed “Ayanna Davis Day” in the county of Westchester.
