Westchester County Legislator George Oros (R, C/Cortlandt) is pleased to announce the Board of Legislators unanimously voted to approve funding to upgrade the county Public Safety Department’s Communications Center, part of which is in Peekskill, and a pedestrian foot bridge at Blue Mountain Reservation in Cortlandt.
A portion of the $3.7M approved to accommodate new radio technology to support the command post that connects 43 police agencies in the county and filters 911 calls, among other functions, will be utilized to improve a repeater tower on Benefield Boulevard in Peekskill.
The county’s Northern Command Center at Cortlandt Town Hall, which Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi and Oros worked to locate in Cortlandt several years ago after the Town disbanded its police force, will directly benefit from the improvements.
“Any time we can spend money to improve public safety it’s money well spent,” Oros said.
Meanwhile, the board also voted to approve $250,000 for the replacement of a pedestrian bridge at Blue Mountain County Park. Other funds will replace or repair culverts located on several paths in Blue Mountain.
“This improvement will allow county residents to enjoy even more one of the nicest parks the county operates,” Oros said.
