Vito J. Pinto, District 10 |
Vito Pinto, a Tuckahoe native, was the first Democrat to be elected to represent the 10th District in 1997. Prior to his election as a County Legislator, Mr. Pinto served on the Tuckahoe Village Board from 1983-1985 and the Eastchester Town Council from 1985-1997.
During his tenure on the Board, Legislator Pinto has chaired the Committee on County Officers and Departments, Public Works Committee, Parks Committee and Legislation Committee. A Vietnam veteran, Pinto who flew over 200 combat missions as a Naval Flight Officer in the F4 Phantom, is an outspoken advocate for veterans. He’s also a staunch supporter of issues related to senior citizens, youth, the disabled, the County’s parks and public safety. Pinto sponsored legislation to keep guns out of the hands of kids and has successfully urged the County to upgrade its emergency response services.
In his current position as Chair of the Public Safety & Security Committee, Pinto guides the committee's work that focuses on the public’s safety. “I have a personal appreciation for those who protect the public. My late father, Michael Pinto, Sr. was a volunteer firefighter for 75 years and served as an elected Fire Commissioner for fifteen years. I have family, friends and former students working as public safety officers in all the services. In short, I’ve acquired the insights into the kind of support that these units need to ensure the safety of our citizens.”
Vito is also currently serving on the Community Services Committee, Generational, Cultural & Ethnic and Diversity Committee and the Government Operations Committee.
Pinto, a 1958 graduate of Tuckahoe High School, enjoyed a 32-year career in education, retiring from the Tuckahoe School District in June 2002. Vito lives with his wife, Sally, in Tuckahoe and has four children and four grandchildren.
