County Legislator Vito Pinto (D,I,WF-Tuckahoe) announced that he has secured $75,000 from the County for the Village of Tuckahoe to be used for an upcoming, critical sewer restoration project.
“This is a serious infrastructure problem that poses both health and safety issues as well as quality of life issues for the affected Tuckahoe residents,” said Pinto. “I directed my fellow legislators’ attention to this issue and am pleased that the Board agreed with me that it was critical that the County help solve the problem. The $75,000 will do that—it will be applied to paying for the cost to complete the project.”
The project will reline the existing sewer mains that are in such poor condition that they have frequently been blocked, causing sewage back-up into the homes of the low/moderate income residents in the affected area along Jefferson Place, Washington Place and Midland Place.
The Board of Legislators approved a resolution authorizing the funds through the Community Development Block Grant Program.
The agreement between the County and the Village of Tuckahoe that authorizes the grant will take effect on February 1, 2005 and runs through January 31, 2006.
