County Legislator Ken Jenkins (D,Yonkers) announced that he has secured a $50,000 county grant to fund a variety of artistic and cultural programs in Yonkers over the course of the next year. The Westchester Arts Council will administer the grant on the county's behalf.
Jenkins, who represents northwest Yonkers, said the grant ensures that more working families will have easier access to cultural programs.
“Anything that helps to broaden our appreciation for the arts in our communities is good news,” explained Jenkins. “Without doubt, exposure to the Arts inspires creativity and adds immeasurably to a person's quality of life. It's important that the Arts are accessible to all county residents --this grant is a way to make sure that the Arts continue to flourish in Yonkers."
Jenkins noted that among the events slated for production are free performances of Shakespeare, jazz and orchestra concerts, as well as performing arts and dance classes.
The Westchester Arts Council is the county’s designated arts council. It’s been instrumental in promoting and strengthening the county’s cultural institutions for the past 40 years. Jenkins called on others to follow the county’s lead in supporting the growth of the Arts in Westchester. “I encourage anyone looking for a way to support the Arts in Westchester to go through the Westchester Arts Council. It’s a great, well-managed organization that reaches every corner of the county.”
