Rogowsky Calls For Long Range Master Plan To Address County Space Needs
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 22, 2008
County Legislator Martin Rogowsky (D,I,WF-Harrison) is calling on the county to develop a long-range master plan for all of the real property the county owns and leases.
“Our Director of Real Estate has done an excellent job handling our real estate but the time has come to take a longer view that takes stock of county-owned and leased property and projects our space needs over the course of the next five to fifteen years,” Rogowsky said.
“Like the capital plan, we need a sound strategy that maps out the county’s short and long term real estate plans.”
Rogowsky noted that over the next several years, the county will have more than 100,000 square feet of leases coming due.
Rogowsky continued, “Does it make strategic sense to renew those leases? Is there a way to terminate some of those leases and use county-owned real estate instead? Should we continue our policy to own rather than rent? These are some of the questions that a master plan would address.”
“We need a plan that focuses on not just our present needs but on what our future needs will be, and we need to start planning now,” Rogowsky concluded.
