County Legislator Judy Myers (D,I,WF- Larchmont), will represent the Board of Legislators on the newly formed and much-needed Flood Action Plan Task Force created by County Executive Andy Spano, which was announced today at the Flood Summit at the County Center. Legislator Myers represents the hard-hit Sound Shore area and has worked diligently with the local representatives to assist the neighborhoods of Mamaroneck, Rye, Larchmont and New Rochelle that were devastated by flooding in April.
“I am eager to begin working with the Task Force to mitigate the County’s flooding problem,” said Myers after her appointment to the Task Force. “I have seen first hand the devastation flooding can cause. The people of my district are still recovering from the loss of their homes, belongings and businesses. I will continue to work to ensure that flooding of this magnitude does not occur again in Westchester County. I appreciate the opportunity to be at the forefront of this pressing issue.”
Other members of the Task Force include former County Commissioner of Planning, Peter Eschweiler; former County Commissioner of Parks, Charles Pond; former County Commissioner of Public Works, Frank Bohlander; former County Commissioner of Environmental Facilities, Anthony Landi; the Mayor of Rye, Steve Otis; and the Mamaroneck Town Supervisor, Valerie O’Keeffe.
The Task Force will develop the required criteria to apply for flood mitigation funding as well as the ways in which the funding can be used. They will also review all recommendations that are received by the Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies with expertise in flood prevention. The Task Force will then provide their input on these recommendations to the County Executive and the Board of Legislators.
Legislator Myers is the Chair of the Family, Health and Human Services Committee and she also sits on the County Board of Health.
