On August 22nd, County Legislator Lois Bronz (D, WF—Greenburgh) presented a check for $5,000 to Joy Borgos, Program Administrator of the Corporate Community Jobs Project (CCJP) to help pay salaries to the project’s 18 summer ’06 interns. CCJP provides summer internships at not-for-profit agencies for low-income and disabled young people and offers management and financing workshops, mentoring, practical work experience, life skills and an income that helps many of these students to stay in school.
“These interns enjoy being successful and valued and the sense of self-worth a job brings,” said Bronz. “The workshops, work experience and evaluations that CCJP provides to under-served youth benefit all of us—the business world and the community at large. It is a win-win situation that the Board of Legislators is pleased to support.”
Based in White Plains, CCJP has been in operation for over twenty-five years. The project internships have been funded by foundations, individuals and corporations to more than 500 high school and college students in over 400 not-for-profit agencies in Westchester County. This year’s Management Skills Interns have been placed at College Careers Fund of Westchester, Greenburgh Nature Center, Hudson River Healthcare, Hudson River Museum, Lower Hudson Conference, MVP Basketball Camps, Ossining CAP of WestCOP, Richmond Children’s Foundation, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, Westchester Arts Council, Westchester Philharmonic, Washingtonville Housing Alliance, Westchester Residential Opportunities and Youth Theatre Interactions. Entry Level Interns have been placed at Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester, Community Planning Council of Yonkers, FoodPATCH, and Mt. Vernon Neighborhood Health Center.
