District 9 Bill Burton moved to Ossining in 1985 and quickly became involved in the community, coaching youth sports and attending village and town board meetings. He was elected Ossining Town Supervisor in 1991. During his tenure, he cut taxes in five of six budgets and managed to eliminate overlapping government departments by consolidating services with the Village of Ossining. His leadership led to the purchase of Cedar Lane Park, the first acquisition of recreational land by the town in nearly 20 years. His ideas on how to resolve septic problems along the town’s North State Road commercial corridor spurred economic development. In his six years as Supervisor, Town taxes were reduced 5 times. Bill retired from the Supervisor’s position at the end of 1997. In 1998, he joined Westchester County’s Taxi and Limousine Commission as an assistant to the Chair. He helped develop the rules and regulations for the industry-requested regulatory body and went on to serve as the Commission’s first violations prosecutor. He left Westchester government at the end of 1999 to found a community and government relations consulting firm. Bill was elected County Legislator from the Ossining-Briarcliff-Croton-Cortlandt area in 2005. He considers this position to be an opportunity to pursue his passion of making government work for people. Bill believes in affordable housing, low tax increases, making sure that County infrastructure and the “safety net” are maintained, and making the Hudson River a safe place for its residents to work, live, and play. He currently serves as Chair of the Legislation Committee, one of two charter-mandated committees of the Board of Legislators. |
