Westchester County’s Bill Ryan Appointed to
Association of Counties Board of Directors
(Albany, NY) Bill Ryan, Chair of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, was appointed today to the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) Board of Directors as an at-large board member. Mr. Ryan represents Westchester County’s 5th legislative district that includes White Plains and Scarsdale.
"Bill Ryan has a wide range of experience in state and local government that will add a new dimension to our board of directors,” said Rocco J. DiVeronica, NYSAC President and Chair of the Madison County Board of Supervisors. “It is this experience that makes him an excellent leader and an asset to our entire Association.”
Ryan was first elected to the County Board in 1998. Prior to his service in the county legislature, Ryan served in state government initially as New York State Assemblyman representing parts of Westchester, Putnam, Orange and Rockland Counties and then on the Assembly Speaker’s staff where he handled policy matters involving intergovernmental relations, education finance and state aid to localities.
“NYSAC works hard to bring our counties together to collectively promote the county agenda in Albany and Washington,” said Ryan. “I am honored to serve on the NYSAC Board with so many distinguished county officials from across the state and I look forward to exchanging ideas with my colleagues that will make government more innovative, efficient and effective in addressing a wide variety of issues.”
Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano congratulated Chairman Ryan on his appointment. “I am pleased that Bill Ryan will represent Westchester County and our neighboring counties on the NYSAC board. He understands the issues facing today’s counties and he will fight for what’s best for our taxpayers,” Spano said.
“NYSAC’s mission to advocate and educate on behalf of counties across the state depends on our ability to attract great county leaders. Bill’s background and leadership will continue to help move NYSAC and our member counties forward in our efforts to fight mandates and rein in local taxes,” said NYSAC Executive Director Stephen J. Acquario.
The New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC), founded in 1925, is a bi-partisan municipal association representing the 62 counties of New York State. NYSAC is the only statewide association representing the interests of nearly 5,000 elected and appointed officials, including county executives, legislators, supervisors, administrators, commissioners and other employees who deliver essential services to the public.
