Mosiello Honors Najera
County Legislator Lou Mosiello (R-I-C, Yonkers), Chair of the Transportation Committee, honored Julio Najera for his recent heroic act that saved some 25 passengers aboard the Route # 20 Westchester County Bee-Line Bus. The driver, John Toneske, suffered a fatal heart attack while operating the bus in Yonkers. With the driver’s foot on the gas pedal and the bus out of control, Mr. Najera jumped from his seat to gain control and stop the vehicle from almost certain disaster.
The ceremony took place on Monday, September 27, 2004 in front of the full Board where members of the Transportation Committee joined Mosiello. Mr. Najera was joined that evening by his wife and two of his three children. “We are thankful that Julio was there that day,” Mosiello said.
Mr. Najera, a Danbury, Connecticut resident who works in Yonkers, expressed many thanks for the recognition and also expressed sincere sympathy for Mr. Toneske and his family.
