Board Proclaims September as Jewish History & Heritage Month in Westchester
At its September 26 meeting, the County Board of Legislators honored the contributions of the Jewish community to Westchester County by proclaiming September 2005 Jewish History & Heritage Month. The meeting followed a reception at the Westchester Arts Council commemorating the occasion.
“We started a new tradition last September to proclaim every September as Jewish History & Heritage Month,” said Board Chairman Bill Ryan (D,WF-White Plains). “Our Jewish community has been, and continues to be, a strong force for positive change and improvement in Westchester. The efforts and energy of Jewish individuals and organizations have enriched every area of our community. It’s the Board’s privilege to annually recognize and honor the contributions of the Jewish community and all it has done and continues to do to make our nation and our county great.”
Ryan noted that he and Legislator Martin Rogowsky (D,I,WF-Harrison) are working on getting the state to follow Westchester’s lead by establishing September as Jewish History & Heritage month in NYS.
