White Plains, NY - In a bipartisan vote, the Board of Legislators authorized an intermunicipal agreement (IMA) between the County and the Town of Cortlandt whereby the County will provide police services to the Town that will supplement the New York State Police, the agency responsible for patrolling and responding to emergencies in Cortlandt.
The vote took place at the regular meeting of the Board of Legislators on Monday evening and passed 16-0.
In 1999, the Town of Cortlandt disbanded its police force. Since then the Town has had an agreement with the State Police and the County to provide police services. The current IMA renews the existing agreement and extends it through January 31, 2020.

White Plains, NY – Westchester Legislators Catherine Parker (D-Rye) and MaryJane Shimsky (D-Hastings-on-Hudson) urged the Astorino Administration today to install temporary street lights along a stretch of the Playland Parkway as soon as possible. The County’s Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPWT) has said that it will be replacing the street lamps in place now along the roadway, but many have been out of service for over a year.

 White Plains, NY – Several members of the Westchester County Board of Legislators (BOL) ventured today to the County’s Blue Mountain Reservation in the Town of Cortlandt to see the probable impact area from the expansion project proposed by the Houston, Texas-based Spectra Gas Corporation for its Algonquin natural gas pipeline. The major construction project would replace existing 26-inch diameter pipe for pressurized gas with new 42-inch pipe from Rockland County to Massachusetts via Northern Westchester and Putnam County.

White Plains, NY - Westchester County Board of Legislators (BOL) Majority Leader Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining) recently introduced legislation requiring retailers to test toys for sale which may contain certain dangerous chemicals, thus potentially preventing them from ever reaching county residents, and today, along with several of her colleagues from the Democratic Caucus, she joined health and environmental advocates to unveil a report at a special press conference detailing the presence of toxic chemicals like mercury and cadmium in children’s products. The dangerous chemicals have been linked to cancer, cognitive impairments, hyperactivity and genetic disorders in children. All of the items tested were purchased in Westchester County over the last several weeks.
