On Thursday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at How Sweet It Is (979 McLean Avenue), Legislator David Tubiolo (Yonkers & Mount Vernon) hosted his first ‘Senior Paint Day’.

Senior Paint Day combined painting instructions from renowned artists Evan Bishop and Katori Walker, with the unique experience and environment of a candy/bakery shop. The wonderful candy/bakery shop of ‘How Sweet It Is’, is owned and operated by prominent businesswoman Aurea Roman.

Seniors paid $10 for the fun and exciting new even.  The supplies, location and artist fees were contributed by Legislator David Tubiolo and community activist Joe Pinion.

Evan Bishop and Katori Walker are a Yonkers based couple with a wide range of artistic skills and talents. Their collective goals include providing quality art projects for the community and contributing to the cultural enrichment of Westchester County.

Katori specializes in children’s illustrations and performing arts, while Evan Bishop is a muralist, painter and graphic artist.

Katori said, “A fun and enjoyable afternoon filled with laughter and painting! My heart was touched by the excitement and participation of this special event. Everyone was creative and an absolute joy!”

Evan said, “Our first painting session with the seniors was magical. To see their ‘inner child’ come out to play in our safe space made it even more important. One participant mentioned this was the first time she painted on a canvass. Katori and I appreciate all the support from David Tubiolo and look forward to more significant art projects at “How Sweet It Is” on McLean Avenue.”

“Paint bars throughout the country have been becoming a great place for people to congregate, have fun and try something new. We’re now giving that option to our senior community. We were so packed on our first day that we need a second class for next time, and maybe a third class. Keeping our seniors active, happy and social is the best way to fight senior isolationism,” said Legislator David Tubiolo.

Senior Isolationism affects roughly one in three seniors, which increases the risk of mortality, loneliness, dementia, elder abuse, depression, high blood pressure, and so many other negative circumstances.
