Westchester County Board of Legislators Receives 2024 Capital Budget

White Plains, NY — On Tuesday, October 17, the Board of Legislators formally received the 2024 Capital Budget for review and consideration from the County Executive, which includes investments in affordable housing, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, Bronx River Parkway Rehabilitation, bridges, roads, the Westchester County Center and flood mitigation.

This budget proposal requests $473.7 million in new appropriations on an all funds basis for 2024. This appropriations request breaks to include:

  • $301.6 million for general County purposes to include upgrades and improvements for Housing, Environmental initiatives, Parks, Infrastructure, and Transportation
  • $160 million for the Refuse, Sewer and Water districts

Board Chair Vedat Gashi (D - New Castle, Somers, Yorktown) said, “Now we begin our diligent work to bring our constituents tangible results. We have provided detailed information regarding the Capital Budget on our website, which we invite all County residents to take a look at so they are educated and informed.”

Legislator Jewel Williams-Johnson (D - Elmsford, Greenburgh, Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown), Chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee said, “As Chair of the Board’s Committee on Budget Appropriations, I am excited to begin reviewing the 2024 Capital Budget. I know it contains the County Executive’s proposals to make critical investments in affordable housing, public safety, flood mitigation, and infrastructure which translates into long-term economic growth. The capital budget is a big-ticket item, but it is also an indicator of the importance of quality-of-life issues. Therefore this is a priority for me as the Chair and as a Legislator and I know it is also a priority for the residents of Westchester.”

Majority Leader Jose Alvarado (D – Yonkers) said, “It is important to have an orderly and timely process to ensure that vital capital projects get funded, and that our Community Based Organizations (CBO’s) are given every consideration to receive the amounts they need to maintain the programs that our residents depend on.”

The Board of Legislators will also receive the proposed Operating Budget for review from the County Executive, and are charged with passing the comprehensive County Budget by the end of December 2023.
